Quran Reciter

Mishari Rashid Alafasy

مشاري راشد العفاسي

Kuwaiti reciter whose clear, melodious delivery and precise tajweed have made him one of the most-listened-to Qaris among younger Muslims.

Sheikh Mishari Rashid Alafasy is probably the most streamed reciter of his generation. His appeal is straightforward: the recitation is beautiful without being ornate, and every letter is articulated cleanly enough to follow along in the text.

He studied at the Islamic University of Madinah, specialising in the ten qira'at — the canonical modes of recitation — and in the chains of transmission behind them. That technical depth underpins what many listeners simply experience as clarity.

Alafasy is unusually well suited to learners. The pace is measured, the makharij (points of articulation) are distinct, and the phrasing is consistent enough that repeated listening trains the ear. Many people who memorise using audio use his recitation specifically for this reason.

He is also an imam of Masjid al-Kabir in Kuwait and has recorded a large catalogue of supplications and nasheed, which means his voice is familiar to many listeners beyond Quran recitation alone.
